Getting Around Korea

Korea's public transport is legendary for being clean, punctual, and affordable. Here's how to master the subway, buses, and high-speed trains.

✈️

Incheon Airport to Seoul

Incheon (ICN) is about 60-90 minutes from central Seoul. You have three main options:

Airport Limousine Bus

Best if you have heavy luggage. Drops you directly at major hotels and districts (Myeongdong, Gangnam, etc.).

₩17,000–₩18,000

AREX All-Stop Train

Standard subway that stops at every station. Cheapest but takes ~60 minutes and can be crowded.

₩4,750 (with T-Money)
🎫

2026's Best Value: Unlimited Passes

If you're staying in Seoul for more than 3 days, standard T-Money recharges might be more expensive than a pass.

Climate Card (기후동행카드) - Tourist Edition

Best for 2026

Unlimited rides on all Seoul subways and buses. Available in 1, 3, 5, and 7-day versions for tourists.

  • 3-Day Pass: ₩10,000
  • 5-Day Pass: ₩15,000

* Note: Does not cover Shinbundang Line or buses outside Seoul city limits.

Subway Mastery

💡 Use the Numbers: Every station has a 3-digit number (e.g., Myeongdong is 424). Follow the numbers if the names are confusing!

Transferring

Look for the Yellow & Green floor markings for transfers. Subway transfers are free as long as you stay within the gates.

Exit Strategy

Major stations have up to 15 exits. Check Naver Map beforehand to see which exit number is closest to your destination. It can save you 10 mins of walking underground!

🚕

Taxis: The Kakao T Way

Don't try to hail a taxi on the street if you can avoid it. Use Kakao T.

How to use Kakao T as a Foreigner:

  1. Download the app and select English as the language.
  2. You can sign up with your international phone number.
  3. Select "General Taxi" and choose "Pay to Driver" if you have trouble linking your international card.
  4. You can then pay the driver directly with cash or your Travel Wallet/WOWPASS card at the end of the ride.
🚄

Leaving Seoul: KTX & SRT

Going to Busan, Gyeongju, or Jeonju? High-speed rail is the only way to go.

Dest. Time from Seoul Avg. Price
Busan 2h 15m ₩59,800
Gyeongju 2h 00m ₩49,300
Jeonju 1h 30m ₩34,400
⚠️ Book Early: KTX tickets for weekends (Friday afternoon to Sunday evening) sell out 1-2 weeks in advance. Use the Korail Talk app to book.
